About Us

respiteservices.com consists of agencies funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. We are collaborating to develop a more dynamic respite network for both children and adults in the Cochrane Temiskaming District.

Respite is short term, temporary care provided so that you can take a break from the daily routine of care giving for someone with  a developmental disability, autism and/or physical disability.  Respite can vary from a few short hours, to a week or may even involve overnight care.  Respite may be provided in your home or in a community location.

• Why might I need respite?
Taking care of yourself on a regular planned basis is important when you are caring for someone dependent on you. Respite may also provide a chance for you to spend more time with other family members or to get more involved in the community.  You decide what you need!  Respite is often referred to as a gift of time.

•Who provides respite care?
You may contract or employ someone to provide respite care. This website provides a  Respite Provider Registry. If you are interested in contacting a Respite Provider, please contact a Respite Network Agency.

Funding may also be available in an emergency situation where additional respite is required.

For more information, please contact any local Respite Network Agency

The guiding principles of respiteservices.com are:

1. To develop a comprehensive respite system in the Cochrane Temiskaming District.
2. To develop and maintain a coherent access process for families of children and adults requiring respite options.
3. To facilitate respite options for individuals that match their identified needs.
4. To work closely with service providers to advocate for appropriate service options to meet the needs identified.
